Positioned as a hub between Europe and Africa, Morocco is emerging as one of the most desirable locations for investment in health and wellness. This includes medical and spa tourism, pharmaceutical industry, bio-medical research and production, medical equipment sales, and wellness products from the desert.

One of Morocco’s primary assets in the medical services sector is its workforce, as the country boasts over 26.000 physicians. The medical corps working at the level of public health establishments numbered 12,454 in 2020, including 3,616 general practitioners, 8,337 specialists, 323 dentists and 178 pharmacists. Regarding the private sector, there are 5,182 general practitioners and 8,440 specialist doctors, which represents a total of 13,622 doctors.

Another asset in the Moroccan health and wellness sector is its competitive cost structure, which offers medical services at a low-risk platform to serve the European and African markets.

Morocco is achieving success because of the importance it has placed on the development of quality healthcare as 6% of GDP is spent on health.

There are 375 clinics with a capacity of 10,562 beds. The Casablanca-Settatregion alone concentrates 118 clinics, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (62 clinics), Marrakech-Safi (46), Fès- Meknes (39), Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (31), Béni Mellal- Khénifra (26), Oriental (25), Souss-Massa (23), Draâ Tafilalet (4), Guelmim Oued Noun (1). It should also be noted that there are 10,125 medical consultation offices in the private sector. The private sector also has 283 radiology offices, 582 laboratory offices, 3,643 dental offices. As for pharmacies, their number is 9,189. 

The Government of the Kingdom of Morocco actively promotes investment in the healthcare and wellness. With a new health strategy launched in 2022, it has aligned itself with the recommendations of the New Development Model by setting a target of 23 medical professionals for 10,000 citizens by 2025, and 45 medical professionals for 10,000 citizens by  2030.
